Following the symposium there will be a reception on Sunday August 3, 2014 at 6:00 p.m., Room 325 of the Convention Center, to honor our 2014 award recipient, Dr. John Ruffin. He recently retired from the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Ruffin has been a tireless champion for the elimination of health disparities and advancing minority health. He has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the W. Montague Cobb Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his exemplary leadership and service. The Cobb Lifetime Achievement Award is bestowed upon those who have, through their careers in medicine, impacted the lives and the health of minorities and other vulnerable populations around the world.
Dr. Alvin Poussaint, internationally recognized author, health disparities researcher and distinguished educator, has been selected to receive The Cato T. Laurencin Lifetime Research Award. Both awards will be presented during the opening ceremonies of the National Medical Association Convention and Scientific Assembly which will occur on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki located at 2005 Kalia Rd, Honolulu, Hawaii.
