National Health Disparities Elimination Summits

The National Health Disparities Elimination Summits at the University of Connecticut Health Center are the result of successful collaborative partnerships between the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (CICATS) at the University of Connecticut and the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute. Dr. Louis Sullivan, former HHS Secretary, CEO & Chairman of the Sullivan Alliance and President Emeritus of Morehouse School of Medicine, was the keynote speaker for the first Summit (June 12-13, 2015: National Health Disparities Elimination Summit, June 12-13, 2015). The 2nd Second National Health Disparities Elimination Summit: Living in America Today: Transforming Environments to Eliminate Health Disparities October 12-13, 2016 brought together various stakeholders to provide important information and resources to eliminate health disparities, with a special focus on the role of the physical environment (e.g. Flint, Michigan water crisis), healthcare environment (e.g. role of diversity in improving outcomes) and social environment (societal structural issues such as gun violence).
